Keith Haring’s Lucky Strike Portfolio, 1987

Commissioned by British American Tobacco, the Lucky Strike Portfolio consists of five small screenprints. Haring incorporates cigarette packets and the familiar logo into scenes filled with dancing figures, curling forms and movement lines.

The red logo becomes part of the action: it floats above a figure, appears on a packet and even replaces a character’s head. These compositions bring the visual language of advertising into Haring’s recognizable world of bold outlines and animated bodies.

Lucky Strike Editions and Signatures

Edition sizes vary by composition

Documented numbered editions are 30 for Lucky Strike 1 and 2, 80 for Lucky Strike 3 and 4, and 50 for Lucky Strike 5. Additional proofs are recorded separately. Photograph the complete inscription, including the denominator and any proof designation.

Keith Haring’s pencil signature

Signed portfolio impressions carry Haring’s handwritten pencil signature and edition numbering. Some compositions also include a reproduced signature or copyright line within the image. Include close-ups of both areas so the handwritten markings can be reviewed alongside the artwork.
